Chapter 1
Nov 10, 2025
Tonight was the Moonbond Ceremony, a sacred rite where the Moon Goddess revealed fated mates—a night of joy, hope, and the forging of bonds that would strengthen the pack for generations. The entire Blackridge Pack gathered beneath its light, their faces alight with anticipation.
Sixteen-year-old Lunara Dravenwood stood at the edge of the clearing, nervously clutching the silver pendant her mother had given her for luck. Her chest fluttered with a mixture of excitement and trepidation. Tonight, everything would change. Tonight, she would finally know who the Goddess had chosen for her.
She glanced toward the altar, where twin brothers, Caidren and Thalric Vaelthorn, stood side by side. The heirs to the alpha line, they were impossibly handsome and impossibly untouchable. Caidren’s piercing blue eyes scanned the crowd, his expression stoic and unreadable. Thalric, on the other hand, exuded an air of restless energy, his dark hair falling into his stormy gray eyes. Lunara’s heart raced as she dared to imagine what it would mean if one of them—both of them—were chosen for her.
The Moon Priestess stepped forward, raising her hands to silence the murmuring crowd. “Tonight, under the light of the Goddess, the bonds of fate will be revealed. Step forward, Lunara Dravenwood.”
The world seemed to slow as Lunara moved toward the altar, her steps heavy with both fear and hope. She could feel the weight of the pack’s eyes on her, their whispers following her like shadows.
“She’s too plain to be chosen for the Vaelthorn twins,” someone muttered.
“Maybe the Goddess made a mistake,” another whispered, snickering.
Lunara tried to block out the cruel words. She focused on the Moonstone, a glowing orb that pulsed with celestial energy atop the altar. The Priestess beckoned her forward, her voice calm and steady. “Place your hands on the Moonstone, child. Let the Goddess reveal what is written in the stars.”
As Lunara’s fingers touched the smooth, cool surface of the stone, it flared with a brilliant silver light, illuminating the clearing. Gasps rippled through the crowd as the light split into two beams, connecting Lunara to Caidren and Thalric.
The whispers grew louder. “She’s their mate?”
“That can’t be right.”
Lunara’s heart soared, but the hope was short-lived.
Caidren’s voice cut through the murmurs, sharp and cold. “This is a mistake.”
The light faded, and Lunara looked up, her wide eyes meeting his piercing blue gaze. “Caidren?” she whispered, her voice trembling.
Thalric let out a derisive laugh, stepping forward. “Weak. That’s what you are, Lunara. A weakling born of weak parents. The Goddess must have been feeling charitable to think you’re fit to stand beside us.”
The crowd erupted into laughter, and Lunara’s chest constricted with shame and disbelief. “No,” she said softly, shaking her head. “This… this can’t be happening. The Moonstone—”
“Is wrong,” Caidren finished harshly. He crossed his arms, his expression as cold as his tone. “We reject you. Both of us.”
The laughter stopped, replaced by stunned silence.
“You can’t… you can’t reject me,” Lunara said, her voice breaking. Her vision blurred with tears as she looked at them, searching for any trace of kindness or regret. There was none.
“You don’t belong here,” Thalric said with a sneer. “You never did.”
Something inside Lunara snapped. A surge of pain, humiliation, and anger flooded her body. Her hands trembled as she clenched them into fists.
Then it happened.
The Moonstone cracked.
A sharp, deafening sound pierced the air as a jagged fracture split the sacred stone in two. The silver light that had once shone so brightly now flickered and faded into darkness. Gasps of shock and horror rippled through the crowd.
“What… what did you do?” the Priestess whispered, her voice trembling.
Lunara staggered backward, her hands raised as if to ward off the stares. “I—I didn’t mean to—”
“She’s cursed!” someone shouted.
“She shattered the Moonstone!” another cried.
The elders surged forward, their faces grim. “Lunara Dravenwood, you are a danger to this pack,” the eldest declared. “You are hereby banished from Blackridge. You will leave by dawn, and you will not return.”
“No,” Lunara said, her voice a desperate whisper. She turned to the twins, her heart aching. “Caidren, Thalric, please… I don’t understand—”
Caidren’s face was impassive as he turned away. Thalric smirked. “The Goddess made a mistake. We’re just correcting it.”
The crowd parted as Lunara stumbled away, her vision blurred with tears. The pack she had called home, the future she had dreamed of, had been torn away in an instant. She stopped at the edge of the clearing, turning back one last time.
Thalric’s voice carried through the silence, sharp and cutting. “You don’t belong here. You never did.”
