When Life Throws Lemons.
"Khloe?" Fanny asked and I looked up at her with a small smile, blinking back the tears. I had to be strong.
"Why are you standing?" I asked, making her shake her head at me in amusement.
"What brings you here?" Fanny asked. "Don't you have work today?"
I shrugged. "I didn't feel like going. I've been too over-worked lately. And I had to meet my most favourite person in the world!"
Fanny laughed. "You and your lines. That will never change."
I laughed. "But you love me all the same!"
Fanny sobered. "Of course I do. Now tell me, why are you really here? It isn't like you to take an off from work."
"Where do you want me to start?" I sighed. Fanny was the only one here who knew about Ian. And I preferred it to stay that way.
"How about from the beginning?"
"Ian is Parker's cousin," I said and I saw the shock in her eyes. "And he's staying with Parker for some months. He's here."
"Where?"
"With that girl," I said, slightly turning my head towards the table where they were at. I didn't even want to look that, fearing that I would probably start crying.
"This is the first time I'm seeing her here," Fanny murmured. She had a thoughtful look on her face. Then her gaze turned on me, and she smiled. "But that shouldn't bother you, okay? You have to show him who's the boss."
A blush threatened to cover my cheeks. The boss? It was obvious that it was Ian. But I also knew that he liked to exercise control and dominance only till our sêx life. But outside of that, he was the most caring guy ever.
I didn't doubt that if I wanted the moon, and asked him for it, he would get it for me. Someway or another.
"Khloe?" Fanny's voice broke me out of my thoughts. "Did you do anything with him?"
I bit my lip, nodding. "Yes."
She sighed. "Did he say anything? Or do anything?"
I paused. I wasn't sure what to say. There were two extremities. One time he left and the next, he didn't want to leave.
"Khloe?"
My eyes snapped to Fanny. "The first time we... uh... you know... did it, he left. I don't know when he left. And today morning, he refused to go away."
"Did you ask him why he left you, sweetie?"
I shook my head. "I don't want to. I'm afraid that I will hear something that I don't want to."
"And what if you hear a reasonable explanation?"
I looked away from her, my eyes drifting across the café and instantly to Ian. MY Ian. They were talking animatedly, and she took out her phone, showing something.
What I saw next surprised me. A soft look passed across Ian's face. He looked so happy and so content. Whatever she was showing me, it had to be something really great. I knew Ian all my life, and I knew that he acted that way only for certain things.
My phone rang, and I quickly looked down, not wanting to attract attention.
"Hey Marl," I greeted my best friend, knowing she was probably freaking out by now.
"Khlo!" her voice was full of panic. "What happened?"
"Just a small headache," I muttered. "I'm at Fanny's."
"You're with grandma? But why?"
"Just like that," I replied. "I didn't go into work, and I wanted to ride my bike."
"Okay sweetie. Call me once you get home safely alright? I still hate Parker for teaching you how to ride."
I laughed. "I love Parker for doing that! I'll call you Marl. Bye!"
I looked up after cutting the call, meeting green eyes. My breathing picked up and I was sure that my heart was beating into an overdrive.
"Khloe?" Ian's voice was surprised. Actually, more than surprised he sounded stunned. As if he couldn't believe that I was here.
"Ian," I said, thankfully succeeding in making my voice contrite. "How come you're here?"
"I'm here to meet my friend," Ian said, his eyes swooping over the table where he was sitting. And the girl was still sitting there. She instantly looked pale when she saw us looking at her.
"That's great," I breathed, putting in all my effort to make my voice sound happy. "I'll see you later then."
"I thought you were going to meet a friend?" Ian left the statement as a question.
"Yeah. Fanny. Marley's grandma." I smiled. "I think she went to check on the kitchen or get more cake."
"Fanny?"
"She owns this place. I like cooking here to just relax."
"Its about an hour's drive."
"I love riding here," I grinned, completely forgetting about the girl or about how much I was hurt.
Ian's expression changed. He instantly became colder. Sterner. Dominating.
"Bike? You rode here?"
I shrugged, even though the warning signs flashed off in bright neon in my head. "Yeah. It's liberating."
Ian raised his eyebrows. "When are you leaving here?"
"I don't know. I usually don't plan that."
"We'll take a cab."
I narrowed my eyes at him. "Cab? We?"
"I will not let you ride the bike Khloe."
"Fuck off Ian. I know what I should do and what I shouldn't do."
"You don't want to be in trouble kitten."
"Your date is waiting for you." I smiled sweetly at him, before getting up and walking into the kitchen. Fanny was fussing around with a cake, so I helped myself to a coffee.
"I saw you talking to him." Fanny commented.
"He told me that I shouldn't ride the bike."
Fanny turned around with a smile. "That boy is in love with you."
"He isn't." I sighed. "Maybe he's just confused. After all, we were each others first love."
Fanny smirked at me. "And you know what they say."
Before either of us could say anything, a female voice came from behind me.
"No one forgets their first love."
I turned around to see they girl who was with Ian. She looked bitter and sad.
"Excuse me?"
"I couldn't help but overhear what you were saying. And I thought I should get it across."
"Um..." I didn't know what to say. "Thanks?"
She cracked a smile. "I'm Silver."
"Khloe."
"I know you are. Ian told me."
My eyes widened. "He spoke to you about me?"
She smiled softly. "He wouldn't stop at first. But now, he has bigger things in life. And I think he should stop running behind something that isn't his."
I was sure that my jaw was on the floor. A little voice creeped into my head. That's where she was wrong. I was HIS. And I would always be his. Even if he didn't know it.
