Chapter 8: New Home and First Day at Work
"Good. You are here," Bryce said and started descending the staircase.
The servant seeing Bryce, bowed to him and left the place. Angela remained rooted to her spot holding the roller handle of her small travelling bag. She stared at Bryce as he descended the staircase and she couldn't help but admire him. In the interview room, she was nervous and hence didn't pay much attention to him. His eyes were something else so she avoided looking at him. At the club when she woke up next to him, she was terrified and confused. So again, she could not look at him. All through her time with him, this was the only time she was taking a good look at him.
"It is rude to stare," Bryce said when he was now standing in front of Angela.
"I am sorry," Angela apologize and lowered her head.
"Come with me. I will show you to your room. We can have supper was you have settled in," Bryce said calmly.
"Yes please, " Angela acknowledged and Bryce called one of the servants to come for Angela's bag.
Bryce and Angela headed for the staircase with Bryce leading the way. They were soon on the next floor. Angela occasionally looked around. Bryce walked ahead while Angela trailed behind him. They both soon ended up in a big room. Angela's eyes widened seeing the size of the room. It was three times bigger than her bedroom back at the Anderson. The room had a king-size bed, a dressing table, a couch, hanging bedside lights, and a heavy drape lining up the wall around the window areas. The bedroom was lavishly decorated. The Andersons may be rich but they don't have this kind of luxury.
"You will be sleeping here," Bryce said while Angela's eyes scanned the room with awe.
"It's been a long day. Take a shower, change into something comfortable and come down for supper," Bryce said and left Angela standing in her spot just a distance away from the door.
There was a knock on the door and it snapped Angela out of her daze. She answered the door thinking it was Bryce. She came face to face with another servant who was holding her bag.
"Good evening ma'am, your bag," the servant said.
"Oh, thank you," Angela said and received her bag from the servant. "Please what is your name? I am Angela," she added.
"I am Josephine," the servant replied.
"Nice to meet your Josephine," Angela said with a smile.
"Likewise, Ma'am. Would you need anything else?" Josephine asked.
"No please, thank you," Angela said and the servant left.
Angela moved her bag inside after closing the door. She turned her bag and opened it. She got so few things out and walked towards the inner door hoping it was the bathroom. She opened the door and it was the bathroom. It was huge. Big enough to be a bedroom. Inside were two rooms divided by glass with an inner shower curtain all drawn to the side. There was a shower room and a bathroom. The bathroom had a jacuzzi. Angela stood there for a while scanning the whole environment painted in gold and white. She finally made a decision and slid the shower room door open. She stepped inside and looked at the multiple knobs inside wondering what was controlling what.
She started turning the knobs and finally figured it out. She took her shower and returned to the bedroom. She picked up a straight dress from her bag and put it on. She closed her bag and pushed it close to the bed and after headed for the door. She was soon out of the room and standing in the hallway. She looked around and realize she was lost. She didn't know which way to go.
Angela started taking slow steps trying to recall which direction they had come from. She looked at the connecting halls which looked the same and decided to take the left one. She walked down the hall and found herself in another hallway with three doors lined up on the wall. She turned around to leave and she came face to face with Bryce freaking her out.
"Being inquisitive already?" Bryce asked.
"No, I lost my way," Angela stammered.
"You will get used to the place with time," Bryce said. "Are you hungry?" he asked.
"I am fine," Angela replied.
"You are my wife. I am not eating supper alone," Bryce said and turned around to leave. "Come with me," he added and Angela followed him.
It was a silent dinner and after, Bryce engaged Angela in small talk.
"Tell me what I don't know about you?" Bryce said once they were in the big living room.
"Do you know about my college education?" Angela asked and Bryce stared at her making her lower her head shyly.
"I do know about your college education," Bryce said. "But tell me. Are you always this shy?" he asked, finding her level of shyness a bit odd.
"Errm," Angela began staring at her fingers not sure how to answer such a question.
"I checked your background and realized, you stayed indoors most of the time and only made friends with Zora Taylor. A friend you met in college. Practically no social life. Why?" Bryce threw the question at her.
"That is how my parents brought me up," Angela replied not ready to share her childhood trauma with him.
"I see," Bryce said but his phone rang.
He checked the caller ID and excused himself.
"Hello Susan," Bryce said as he exited the living room.
Angela seized the opportunity to return to her room to avoid another interruption with Bryce. He was making her uncomfortable with his gaze and his stare. With the help of one of the servants, Angela returned to her bedroom. She entered and realized her bag was not where she left it. Which was, on the floor next to the foot of the bed.
"Where is my bag?" Angela asked the servant before she could leave.
"In the closet, ma'am," the servant replied and pointed to a closed door.
Angela realized it was the second door in the room she had not opened. She opened it and it was a walk-in closet. The closet was filled with both male and female clothing and accessories. Angela looked at the line of clothing and accessories for women and her eyes widened. She had only seen such in clothing stores. Her mind quickly registered the male clothing in the closet.
"Am I going to share a room with Mr Moore," Angela thought and wondered how the night was going to be.
She found her pyjamas and put them on before exiting the closet. She climbed into bed and covered herself with a blanket. She stayed there for a while. She moved to the couch and slept there instead.
Angela woke up Sunday morning and realized she was alone in the house. Josephine informed her, that Bryce had left for his family house. Angela felt relief staying in the apartment without Bryce's handsome stature and piercing gaze.
It was soon Monday and Bryce was still not back home. Angela got ready for work. She came downstairs all dressed up, had breakfast and requested an Uber to work. It was a short drive from the apartment to the company.
Angela was directed to the HR office and she knocked gently on the door.
"Come in," she heard someone say.
Angela pushed the door open and entered. The first person she saw was Susan and the next person she saw once she entered and closed the door was Eva whose desk was towards her right behind the door.
"Good morning," Angela greeted.
"Welcome Angela have a seat," Susan said and Angela sat down in front her her desk.
"Okay, this is your contract. Go through it and sign. You don't have to do that today," Susan said and handed the contract to Angela. "These documents are specific to your role. You need to understand everything in his book and know them like the back of your hand," she added. "Do you understand?" she asked handing the document over to Angela.
"Yes, I do," Angela replied accepting the document from Susan's hand
