Chapter 7

I could feel the intense gaze of everyone in the room on us as my mom and I sat down on the chairs. Alpha Cassian sat opposite to us and watched us with a stoic face. There were more people in the room than I thought there would be. It just made me more nervous.

Everyone from the shadow pack and some people from the darkwood pack were in the room and they stood silently behind the predator.

Luna Evelyn's presence did help to ease my beating heart a little bit. I was grateful that she was present.

My attention fell back on the predator when he decided to lean forward and put his elbows on the table between us.

"Tell me your full names," He demanded.

I gulped and nodded. "Ivy Elsher," I introduced myself. "and this is my mother Isabella Elsher." I looked at my mom.

I saw Alpha Cassian frown for a moment before his face returned back to his usual stoic expression. "Hmm…" He hummed and scribbled something on the paper in front of him before looking straight into my eyes. "How old are you and your mom?"

"I'm seventeen, turning eighteen soon and my mom is forty three," I answered. I didn't let my mom speak. I didn't want to make her feel stressed. Alpha Cassian is intimidating and I'm afraid that she'll feel too stressed talking to him.

Alpha Cassian looked at me with a troubled expression before he sighed and wrote something on the paper again. He looked at my mom. "When did her mate die?" He asked.

I slightly flinched at the question. Talking about my father's death still wasn't easy for me. "They killed him when they captured us… it was about two months ago…I think." I don't remember correctly. I don't remember the exact days. The days we spent with hunters are still fogged in my mind.

"Who killed him?"

"The hunters…" I clenched my fist and looked down.

"What was your father's name?"

I looked up at Alpha Cassian. A small smile formed on my lips. "Scott Elsher," I replied proudly. He was an amazing warrior. His skills were well known among people. I don't know if Alpha Cassian has heard of his name but I still felt the need to utter my father's name proudly.

My smile soon faded when I saw the look on Alpha Cassian's face. He was frowning.

"Scott Elsher?" He asked and I nodded, mirroring his expression. "I think I've heard his name before," He said, causing my eyes to widen.

Really? As I thought, people really know my father's skills. I smiled wide again.

Alpha Cassian opened his laptop that was on the table. He typed something onto it and waited for a second before leaning back.

"Scott Elsher," He uttered, looking at the screen. "Former warrior of the Red glow pack…"

My smile dropped when I heard him say my father's previous pack's name. I looked at my mother. She was nervously fiddling with her hands. I reached out to give her hands a tight squeeze. They felt cold like ice.

Alpha Cassian looked into my eyes, his hazel eyes piercing into my very soul. "He was banished from the pack twenty years ago…." He leaned forward and raised a brow. "...for being a traitor."

I stood up immediately, the chair I was sitting on pushing back with a loud creaking noise. "He's not a traitor!" I shouted, slamming my hands on the table loudly.

I was angry. How dare he call my father a traitor?! He knows nothing about him!

"He was framed!" I shouted again.

"Omega, sit down!" A booming voice came from behind Alpha Cassian but that guy was immediately silenced by Luna Evelyn.

"She has a name!" I heard her say. The guy immediately apologized and stepped back. I could hear their sounds but my eyes didn't leave Alpha Cassian. Not even for a second.

He was looking at me with an amused expression. "That's what all the traitors say." He shrugged, causing me to fume.

"How dare you judge my father like that?! You don't even know him! He's innocent and he suffered more than enough for things he didn't even do. Now he's not in this world and I'll not let anyone slander him anymore!"

Alpha Cassian stood up. "Sorry kid, we can't accept a traitor's family into our pack. Your father was banished from a pack for a serious crime and I don't want to take any risks and put my pack in danger." He said as he got up.

"I told you—" I froze when my mother grabbed my hand tightly. She looked at me with warning eyes that told me to stay silent. I was frustrated. I could feel tears prick my eyes. My father was innocent. Even after his death, they're still slandering his name.

"Cassian," Alpha Keiran spoke up, causing me to look towards them again. "Do you need to be this harsh? Just give them a chance. I don't think they're any threat—"

"I'm sorry, Keiran but I can't do that. You know how much I hate traitors," He scoffed.

I couldn't help but clench my fist in anger. Every word he said was an indirect stab to my father's name.

"Please don't rush your decision, Alpha Cassian." This time it was Luna Evelyn who spoke. "They seem harmless to me. I think you should investigate a little more into the matter before rejecting them. What if they're wronged like they claim to be? Wouldn't that be unfair?"

"I really don't want to take any risk—"

"I guarantee you. If Scott Elsher really was a traitor, then I will take them back to our pack but you need to do a deep background check to make sure he really committed a crime."

Alpha Cassian put his hands into his pockets as he thought for a moment. He stood there silently for a few seconds before looking at me.

Even though my eyes were glazed over with tears and I was on the verge of breaking down, I did my best to glare back at him.

I saw him sigh and shake his head before he looked at Luna Evelyn.

"Alright… I'll give them a chance,"
