Diana's POV

"Why the hell are they coming again?" Camilla, my best friend since childhood, asked standing next to me with her hawk eyes stuck on the many shirtless werewolf guys doing a runway towards the house. The sun was shining down just enough to create a shimmer of sweat on their bodies. They knew how to draw attention by emerging from the forest trees slowly with just shorts on. Their upper body was on display for the girls to eye up, after all, there was a chance you'll meet your mate. We had extra rooms to take in the alpha and a group of 30 if they bunk together. So, our house was going to be packed for the next couple of weeks.

Blinking a couple of times, I turned to face her to answer her while trying to get my mind out of the gutter. Their chests glittering with sweat could easily faint any girl within a 20-mile radius. Okay maybe I was exaggerating but the girls in our pack were drinking up the sight like there was no tomorrow. Someone should offer them so water. Yet again I was not better than them as my mind was a pool of hot mess. I had to rack my brain for a couple of seconds to finally answer her.

"Pack meeting?" I said in more of a question. I really didn't need to know why they were coming just glad I had some eye candy after my father purposely threatened the guys in our pack to avoid me. I couldn't have any distractions right now when the ceremony to become alpha is drawing close.

"Huh," Camilla said with her mouth wide open. I wouldn't be surprised if she started drooling. Taking a deep breath, I broke through the trans these men were causing. Sure, there was a group of very attractive werewolf men walking towards us without shirts but that gave me no reason to stand here and drool over them like they were a piece of steak. I was the alpha's daughter so I had to put a good example. I tried to get myself under control, hence the word tried.

"How long will they be staying?" Camilla asked. I sighed deeply and closed my eyes but to no help, the image of them shirtless were still burning behind closed lids.

"A couple of months, they are here to make a deal with my dad since they witnessed rogue attacks near our lands. They are here to lend us a hand." I glanced at her when I heard no reply. I rolled my eyes when it looked like she wasn't even listening to a word I was telling her. Her big brown eyes were fixated on someone in the group. I looked towards the direction she was looking at but didn't get to see who caught my best friend's eye because someone came to stand directly in front of me blocking my line of sight.

My vision became nothing but cleavage since this person was wearing very high heels, she towered us. She couldn't contribute much to the pack by working, cooking or fighting so she was pretty low in our ranks. Everyone in the pack has a pretty good understanding of where they stand in our pack by power and contributions in a certain field. This person didn't want to contribute much to the cooking or cleaning so they were low in ranks.

Nickie's train of vision was to seduce the highest man in power. Meaning the alpha in the oncoming group.

"They said the beta and alpha of that pack are fucking hot." Nickie, practically the melting in her spot with a smirk on her pink lips. I gave her a look like 'why the hell are you telling me this', but a low growl from Camilla stopped me from telling her to leave. I snapped my head towards Camilla not sure if I imagined that coming from her. Camilla never liked Nickie but she was never one to pick fights. We didn't get animalistic that quick. Plus, she didn't like getting her hands dirty and fighting with Nickie meant you would.

"Mine." Camilla snarled viciously at Nickie whose green eyes widen in response. Confused, I was about to lay my hand on her shoulder to try to cool her down but quickly took it away when Camilla was going to bite it in midair. What the fuck was wrong with her? Never seen her act like this.

"Calm down my love," A guy said in her ear and like a light switch was turned off, she relaxed into his arms. She breathed in his scent and looked back at us with a glint in her eyes that made us step back. Again, what the hell? Was anyone else confused or just me?

"He's your mate. The beta is your mate." Nickie said shocked before dropping her blonde head showing her respect to the higher in command. "Congratulations," Nickie whispered through gritted teeth. I'm sure Nickie was just waiting for the beta and alpha to wrap her long fingernails around them before anyone else could. Wait... what did she just say? They are mates as in inseparable lovers. She barely just saw him and she is already getting defensive over Nickie commenting that he is hot, when we didn't even know he was her mate yet. But then why did she attack me? I didn't say anything.

"She saw you as a threat. Any pretty female is automatically labeled as a threat when their mate is around. Her werewolf side is claiming me." Camilla's mate spoke out like he was reading my mind. Camilla was as close to him as she could get, their bodies pressed together, calming her in some way. "Especially when the mate bond hasn't been completed."

"Camilla," I whispered still in shock. "Her name is Camilla."

"I'm David by the way," He gave me a small smile and I could tell he would offer me his hand but Camilla was wrapped all around him that he couldn't move much.

"Nice to meet you," I said. "I'm Diana."

Camilla's mate had light brown hair and light green eyes like the spring leaves of a rainforest. My best friend got paired up with a hottie, I was so happy for her but as looked down at Camilla's brown eyes I still noticed she was giving me a death glare. A bit shocked she was acting that way to me, I swallowed down my hurt and left them alone. I thought it was always chicks before dicks?

As I was walking into the house a few wolf whistles were heard behind me from the guys standing outside. It seems we drew some unwanted attention to ourselves by the way Camilla was acting. The young wolves were reaching out of their league and breaking my father's orders by coming close. Rolling my eyes, I kept walking towards my dad's study room. I needed to inform him Camilla has found her mate and it was the beta of the other pack. How will my dad make it so she doesn't have to choose between her family and her mate? That's what mates usually did, they had to choose which pack they wanted to be in and there is no going back afterward. Camilla's mate is bound to leave us to and go to his pack since he is the Beta. She would leave everyone she loves, including me...

I was feeling bummed. Suddenly, I felt my skin shiver almost as if I was going to transform. I felt it something pull at my heart before I smelled a scent so alluring confirming that my mate was close by. Surprised this sudden discovery, I stopped in my tracks. Goosebumps ran down my arms and my heart clenched painfully as my body wanted to run towards my mate. His exquisite musky smell wrapped around me like a cloud, making my insides tighten in anticipation.

Was my mate behind these closed doors?

Standing outside the door to my dad's study I hesitated for a second with my hand on the door handle. Was I ready to see him? Fuck yes. I swung open the door to my dad's study which caused the smell to hit me like a ton of bricks. It was difficult for me to keep my breath steady as my heart picked up speed like never before. My hands trembled and I hid them behind my back. My father was talking to a man whose back was to me. Luscious jet-black hair was the only thing I could tell from behind.

"Yes, Diana?" My father asked looking up at me waiting to hear what I had to say. Any lucid thoughts vanished when that tantalizing smell hit me awakening something I haven't experienced before. Why did I come here again? My mind would only think of my mate but there had to be more than that. Think!

It took me a while to get my voice and breathing under control, all a while my father raised an eyebrow at me. "I-It can wait for later," I stuttered not really getting my voice back but also noticing my mate didn't turn to face me. A pain in my chest grew but before he could turn around (if he ever planned on doing that) and before my father could even open his mouth to say something, I shut the door and rushed to my room ignoring my people when they shouted my name to get my attention.

My cheeks flushed with embarrassment from my first encounter with my mate which went horribly wrong. I needed some time for myself.

Who was he to not face his mate? I mean, it's just a reflex to turn towards the person interrupting a conversation. I was internally screaming that I didn't get to see who my mate was. It left me wanting him more.

My house was noisy tonight which was to be expected. Everyone was having fun bonding with each other since they will be spending the next couple weeks together until the threat was neutralized. I was actually glad our packs could get along, the Wilding pack tended to have a bad reputation. I decided to take a shower in my room before heading down hoping the feelings stirring inside me would cancel out with a cold one, but no such luck there. I sighed mentally when my brain kept thinking back to my mate. Thinking of our first encounter and what I could have done differently. That wasn't a good start but hopefully, we could meet properly.

Every cell of my body was yearning to go back down to my dad's study room and make him look at me. I wanted him to act like Camilla in some way and take me in his arms.

Then I remembered my father's rule. No distractions. My mate was going to be a huge distraction for me. I felt torn between my father's expectations to become the next alpha and my new mate. My father would never let anyone else be alpha unless it was me. I had the title of alpha resting on my shoulders, I couldn't just pick up and leave that behind.

With thoughts running crazy through my mind I walked out from the bathroom connected to my room in bra and panties with a towel on resting on top of my head. I stopped dead in my tracks when I stopped someone in my room. They were stretched out on top of my bed looking at me with a look of awe. It was not just anyone, it was a handsome man with stunning grey eyes surrounded by dark long eyelashes I definitely envied. He was blessed with rugged good looks, a sharp jawline covered lightly by five o'clock shadow beard. I couldn't help looking at his kissable lips that screamed at me to kiss him already.

Why didn't I hear him come in? How did he find my room? All that didn't matter right now because they were in trouble, nobody is allowed in my room without my consent. I was ready to go off on them but held myself back because I've never seen him before.

"What are you doing here?" I asked taking a step closer and realizing it wasn't one of my pack members. I've never seen those grey eyes and that straight midnight black hair before. It was long enough to reach his eyebrows and styled in a messy way which meant that he most likely combed it back by his fingers. He had on a black shirt that clung to his upper body very well. I could admire the muscles hiding beneath the shirt. The smell I was getting caused me to come back to my senses. This scent, these strong feelings bubbling inside me were too much to ignore.

He was my mate.
