Chapter 2

Isabella’s P.O.V.

I kept yawning all the way, thanks to the rogue that managed to somehow slip past the tight patrol surrounding our lands at night. Everybody was shocked at how he managed it, and him being the tight-lipped wolf that he was, he wouldn’t speak. Eventually I was summoned and hence robbed me of my minimal 5 hour sleep.

One of the things that make us extremely important in the werewolf world is the abundance of the Strongest Warriors and Healers that our pack is a home to.

Whenever there is a threat from rogues, other packs come to us in search of help—to look for an ally in us, so that our warriors may fight by their side if need ever arise.

When wars were waded, many were injured and many were trapped in the sinister black magic spells cast by enemy witches. This was another time when our pack was approached for help, as it was one of the few acknowledged packs that were gifted with blessed Healers. Healers are a special kind of werewolves, ones that can heal any injury or threat looming over a life, simply with the help of their powers.

I made it to college on time; my classes generally started at 8.10am and ended at around 3.40pm by the latest. I parked my car in the parking space and dashed towards the entrance, to my closest of friends. Surprisingly, it was still 8.02 am, so we had another 8 minutes left before classes began.

I saw them standing in their usual spot, by the lockers. Matt, Rose, Caleb and Ryan were all there, waiting for me. Ryan , upon noticing me, mentioned it to the lot as they all turned to me. “Finally the warrior princess arrives.” Caleb said as soon as I was in hearing distance.

I just shook my head and nudged him roughly with my shoulder, “Aw, was the chipmunk missing me?”

He put his tongue out to tease me and that was when my best friend jumped on me out of nowhere. “Bella! Come on, Let’s Go. New Year, New Beginnings”

I enjoyed her cozy embrace and replied as we separated, “Oh my god Rose, You are going to choke me to death someday—” I loved to tease her “—and by the way, what’s so new about this year?”

She wiggled her eyebrows suspiciously. “MATE!”

“What the actual fuck? All this time, I thought, Matt was your mate.” I replied sarcastically, snorting out laughter at my own joke.

Ryan and Caleb looked at Matt and ended up on the floor, laughing like two mad men. Matt looked at me, a little bewildered at my comment, and replied hastily, “Hey, I am her Mate!”

I just couldn’t hold it any longer and curled up laughing with the guys at Matt and Rose’s expressions. Finally we calmed down, still giggling here and there as Ryan pulled me towards our class which I didn’t even remember for a second.

Matt and Caleb were studying a Major in Business Administration, Rose was completing her Major in Nursing and Minor in Art, Ryan and I, we were both of the same interest, having Marine science as a major. I decided to entertain my hobby of music by choosing music as my minor subject

Since Ryan and I , we both had the same classes most of the time, we grew on each other until we started attending every class together, the only exception was if one fell sick. Matt and Caleb had same classes as they too shared the same majors, whereas Rose was the only person who was left alone for all her classes and didn’t had the chance to share even a single class with either of us.

Lunch break was the same period for us, so we always met at the cafeteria to talk over our day. We even left for home at the same time== I guess it had something to do with the feeling of familiarity and trust that we shared not just as friends but as a pack.

Rose and I have been friends with the guys since 3rd grade, Ryan was a year older than us, but poor fellow caught the flu and had to repeat the grade. That was when we met him; we became friends instantly. Since he was our Gamma’s son, he used to hang out with the Alpha and Beta’s sons and that’s when we met Matt and Caleb. Unlike Ryan, those two idiots were two years older than us girls.

Rose and I turned 18 last year, and on Rose’s 18th birthday she found out that Matt was her mate. They bonded instantly. Matt left his bad boy persona the day he found his Mate and has been deeply in love with her since that day. They marked each other a month later and since then Rose became our pack’s Luna. It was so much less drama than what we were told of Alpha mating as young children.

The remaining three of us are yet to find our halves. There is a good chance that our mates might belong to some other packs, it’s not a problematic situation for the guys, since female mates generally leave their packs to move to ours.

It was my mate, who had me worried sick. I couldn’t leave my siblings and move to another pack, we were basically orphans and I have been the only guardian they have had. Hence, I’m not so eager to find my mate.

I pushed the thought of finding a mate out of my mind and walked towards my class. Ryan sensed my discomfort like he always does and asked, “You okay, princess?”

I just nod. I do not want my friends to worry about my petty dreams of having a mate. Entering our classroom, I took the front seats. I never understood why people don’t like sitting in the front row. It’s the closest seat to the professor’s desk but still a good 10 steps away so you have your space; it’s not even like sitting in the back has some privilege—the teacher’s desk is staged so even if you sit in the back, your desk is as visible as the front row.

As we settled in, Mr. Williams entered and loaded his stuff on the desk. Before we could realize, 90 minutes had already passed and it was 9.40am. Classes went by in a similar manner, all in a blur. Soon it was time for Lunch.

As we made our way to the Cafeteria, we caught a couple of new faces. It was nothing new though, since every year a few hundred students enrolled –our college is one of the best around town—and it’s pretty much the same every year.

On entering the cafeteria, my attention was occupied by our regular table which was already half full with my three friends—they had been waiting for us. Settling the bags on the unoccupied seats, Ryan and I stood in line for lunch.

A strangely familiar face stood ahead of me in the line. Turning back, she offered me a very polite smile. “Hi! I’m Rachel. We are in the same class.” she held her hand out for me and I took it, smiling back.

“So that’s where I saw you.” I suppressed a laugh at how awkward she might have felt, having a stranger gawk at her. “Sorry for staring; I felt as if I knew you but couldn’t point out where. By the way, I’m Isabella.” I moved my attention to Ryan who was quietly listening to our conversation.

“And this is one of my Best friends—Ryan.”

Ryan, being the ass that he is, just nodded solemnly.

Rachel was sweet throughout the small conversation that we had; she even stood by to wait on us as we finished getting our trays of food. As soon as we were done, she walked a little further down the lunch hall with us. “I’m new here. It’s me and my brother, along with a couple of his friends. Our father wanted us to explore someplace other than our own territory.

On hearing the word ‘Territory’, Ryan suddenly snapped into alert mode and started looking at her in an interrogative manner. She never once faltered; in fact she was just as normal and bubbly as earlier.

I smiled back, “So, you’re a werewolf?”

She nodded enthusiastically. “Yes! I thought you’d already know.”

I just shrugged. “No, I didn’t think about it.”

Just as I was about to ask her about her pack’s name, I felt a hard push shaking my balance off. I fell on the ground face first with my meal sprawled right in front of me. The only thought that kept running through my head at that very moment was ‘they better be gone till now, or else they’d face my wrath’.

I brushed my pants, standing back up as Caleb and Ryan came rushing to help me, only to notice that everyone’s attention was zeroed on me and the person behind me, surely because everyone who knew me also knew better than to fucking mess with me.

I turned around, only to see a plastic bimbo standing in front of me feeling all high and mighty, with a wicked smile etched to her face, probably feeling great after pushing me.

Before I could say something, she spoke for herself. “Watch where you’re going, bitch.” She tried to move past me. I heard a gasp leave Rachel’s mouth.

Oh no, honey. You’re so wrong if you think this ends here.

I grabbed her hand, when Rachel growled, “What the hell Veronica? What was that for?”

I looked towards Rachel to notice that she despised this girl too, and that they both knew each other.

This was nice, very nice indeed.

I turned back towards the Plastic doll whose name I collected to be Veronica, when she said, “What did I do Rachel? She was in my way. If you don’t believe me, ask Megan and Olivia.”

I just shrugged to her façade—excuses would work on her people, but not on me. She moved her attention towards me, asking “What are you smiling at, you bitch? You think this is funny?” she pushed my shoulder a little more harshly than I would have liked.

Enough games, little doll.

Before she could even move her hand back, I grabbed her wrist and twisted it with a simple turn, but unsurprisingly it was too hard for the little bimbo who turned along with her arm, screaming out in agony.

“Listen here Malibu Barbie. I’m going to say this once, so you better listen carefully.” I twisted her arm with a little more pressure and continued, “Keep your Manicured paws to yourself. I won’t break you this time—something about warnings first, but the next time you or your minions touch or even breathe in the same air, I won’t think twice before pulling you apart, piece by piece.”

I loosened my grip with a slight jerk, and the girl—I must applaud her determination—she tried to jump at me. The audacity!

Right at that moment, I was pissed. I held her firmly in my grip, not planning to let go any sooner, when I heard a panicked Rachel asking a perfectly calm Ryan to get me out of this situation.

All she received was “Do I look crazy to interfere in Bella’s fights?” I heard a laugh around somewhere, making me smirk harder. Everybody knew their boundaries. “If anything, I think you should be worried about your little friend here. She is the one who pissed the wrong girl and now she has to bear the brunt.”

I smiled at his comment and pulled back my fist, throwing a light punch at Barbie's face. She looked taken aback as my knuckles touched her high cheekbones, the skin reddening as winces left her mouth.

Blood started seeping through her perfectly sculpted nose, as I think I most definitely broke it.

Now that would cost a fortune to fix.

I growled once more, finally pushing her off. She bent down, holding her nose and throwing a tantrum, when a group of guys came rushing to her and pulled her up.

The guy, who pulled her up, examined her wound and turned towards me, eyes blazing with anger.

He looked at me like he was his mate, but he cared too much—too much for me to like. What?

He walked up to me and said—No, he yelled “What the fuck, you? How dare you touch her like that? Do you even know who she is?”

I simply shrugged. It wasn’t like it would bother me even if she was the queen of the werewolf world, I never showed my belly. “Firstly, I don’t care; even if she is the granddaughter of some stuck up bitchy ass queen. And secondly, I did not just touch her. I punched her, get your facts straight.”

He looked furious at my reply as he charged towards me. That was the moment Ryan stepped in front of him and stopped the guy before he could come any close. “Whoa man, calm the fuck down. It was her mistake.” Ryan stood between the two of us; two angry individuals just waiting to tear each other down. “Ask Rachel, if you don’t believe us.”

As soon as Rachel’s name was mentioned, a guy grabbed her, pulling her to his chest.

“What are they, savages?” whispered Ryan from beside me.

Oh God. One more Mated Couple. I suppressed another laugh.

Rachel snuggled in his hold and smiled at him to which the guy visibly relaxed. The previously (and still) mad Sex God turned to Rachel with a smoldering gaze and asked, “What the hell happened here Rach?”

She replied nonchalantly to him as if this burst of anger was nothing abnormal, “They are saying the truth, Veronica started it. She pushed Bella out of nowhere.” Looks like this guy has got some anger management events to take part in.

He sighed visibly before turning to the baby cruella de ville, “What the hell Veronica? Why did you do that?”

She turned visibly pale before stuttering out some broken syllables, “N-no babe, she is lying! I didn’t do anything like that. She just punched me out of nowhere.”

I watched her play out her Award winning acting, and by the looks of it, I could say that she had done it a lot of times to have such great practice.

What a bitch. I heard my wolf say. She never does that, she hardly ever interferes in other people’s life.

Whoa Aurora, did you just curse an unknown person? I asked her.

Oh you’ll know. Is all she said, before vanishing again.

Bringing myself back to reality I focused on the conversation between Barbie and her supposed Ken.

He looked angry once again. What did she say now that pissed him off in a few seconds? He towered over her, a predator trapping his prey.

Oh how much would I have loved to be in that position with him.

What the fuck is wrong with me? Did I just think that? I think this whole ‘Mate less’ scenario is screwing with my head. These are the times, when I feel that I should just start searching for my mate in other packs. Then at least I would know whoever the hell that person is.

Just as I was trying to calm the mental fight within myself, I heard a growl—a growl that made my inside churn and one that made my panties soak. Holy fuck, whoever that was, he sounded damn sexy. I almost drooled over the voice, when Ryan just nudged me, sensing my arousal as it became more and more distinct; that brought me back to the Sex god who the growl actually belonged to.

It was so embarrassing; all the unmated male wolves could have smelt my arousal, and one that I felt for a mated male.

Uhhhhhhh. Stupid hormones.

As I tried to suppress my arousal, I heard him say, “So, you mean to say that my little sister is lying?”

Wait. What?

Did I just hear correctly? Little sister?

I turned towards Ryan only to see he had a similar expression as me. I looked at Rachel, only to see a guilty expression etched on her face. I gave her a small smile to reassure her that we weren’t mad. It wasn’t her fault her hot brother was a brat.

The she devil paled even more, just like a Christmas ghost—No, like a Halloween ghost. She deserved it; that bitch just called my man, her babe.

My man? When the fuck did I call him mine? He wasn’t even my mate.

Maybe I did lose it now. God, I needed to get the hell away from these people. And I thought I was done with this shit. I didn’t have anything to say or do.

So why waste my precious lunch time?
