Description

“MATE!” I look at him and realize: he already knows. He moves closer to me, if that’s even possible, but I don’t move. This brings a proud smile to his face and I feel myself turn into mush. He slowly places his hand on my cheek as if to not scare me away and that’s when I feel it: the sparks that mom and dad always talked about. But these aren’t sparks; they feel like Fireworks. I am blinded by this feeling, mesmerized with it and that’s when I hear him say, “MINE!”

Brnggggg!!

The sound of my monotonous alarm blasted through the room. I stretched, a habit I had adopted since my own childhood, and bent over to check the time, even though I knew what time it was, as I always set my alarms at 5 am.

Duh, Genius.

I shut it down and moved out of the cozy bed, making my way towards the bathroom to get my business done. Once I felt fresh enough, I trudged towards my sisters’ room.

Yes, you read it right---Sisters.

Mia & Iris are my eleven year old twin siblings. Fortunately, they are non-Identical; as if it wasn’t exhilarating enough without them being Fred and George Weasley.

Thank Goddess for that.

They can be a burden when they wish to, but all thanks to the Moon Goddess, they don’t spew much trouble anymore now that they have ‘grown up’ like Mia says. I am very grateful for that.

I peek in their room, looking at the two girls sprawled across their respective beds. They might think they had matured now, but they still were my baby sisters—my stupid, smart, weird sisters.

I know what you must be thinking; why let the girls share the same room? To answer one impending question, we do not belong to a poor family, and we never had.

My dad was the head warrior, so we have always been loaded, living in a five bedroom house in one of the richest locations of the pack— the area close to the pack house, our pack house.

The Blue Moon Pack.

The reason my sisters evade the chances of straying apart is not because they particularly enjoy sticking together but because they don’t much like what happens when they stay away for far too long.

When the two were still kids, Mom took Iris with her on a trip to visit our ill grandma, whereas dad, Mia and I stayed back home.

Both of them ended up falling sick in a matter of two days, with no practical reason behind it. I remember Mia crying for hours at end as if she was in deep agony. Dad consulted the pack’s healer in order to calm her pain down, but the healer could do nothing except sedate her—the only way she could be cured was if her twin was brought close to her again.

They share a bond of Protectors, said the healer, something about them being each other’s protectors and how distance away from each other was making them restless. Next thing I know, Dad was packing up to leave for Mom’s oriental pack, from where he brought Iris back. The moment the two girls were together, both stopped weeping. It was weird, but that was the day we realized how much better it is for them to stick together and since then we never parted them.

I slowly shook Mia’s shoulder to wake her up, hearing her mumble some incoherent words as I continue my mild attempt at waking the beast. “Mia, sweetie, get up, it’s already 6.” On hearing this, she jerked awake as if I splashed her with water. Always the dramatic one, that girl. I just shook my head at her antics and turned to Iris, who was still snoring softly. As I began to wake her up, Mia moved out of her stupor and made a dash for the en suite bathroom as if it was the race of her life.

These idiots always fight over who gets to take a shower first. That is why I have to maintain a streak of alternatively waking them up first so they both have a chance to be the first one to bathe. We have four Bathrooms in total, they could both use them at the same time, but their stubborn notion was ‘your own bathroom feels the best to you’, since it has all of their toiletries.

Girls… I tell you.

While Mia was a silent riser; Iris, on the other hand, hated the idea of waking up. She could kill anybody for disturbing her blissful sleep. I think she got that from our mother; Mom hated the idea of waking up early just as much as young Iris.

Once I made sure the two were completely awake, I silently tip-toed to the triplet’s room. Yes, Triplets this time. I had another set of siblings—three brothers—who were mere two year olds. Our parents were the 1, 2, 3 type of pair.

First it was I, a single child—Isabella. The second time, they had twin girls—Mia and Iris. The third time, it was the triplet boys—Winston, Lucas and Theodore.

Mom passed away after the triplets were born. Postpartum complications they said; the doctor could save either her or the boys, and my mom being the brave and loving woman she was, she made the decision to save the boys.

As for dad, he passed away too, just thirteen months after mom’s death. He was broken after his Mate’s death, something very common in the werewolf world, which further deteriorated his own health. He went to fight in war to get his mind over it, in that miserable condition. His wolf wasn’t strong anymore and dad’s human body too had become weak from his agony. He was attacked and murdered by one of the rogues, the same rogues against whom our pack had waged war. Since then, it had just been me who looked after my siblings. It wasn’t really a problem, since the girls were already eleven and old enough to take care of themselves.

Most of the times, I guess.

As for my brothers, they were too small and needed constant attention from either one of us, and to keep a watch over them all the time.

They didn’t remember Mom—they never saw her; and for those little darlings, I was their Mommy. They had always called me Mommy and neither I nor the girls had the heart to tell them otherwise, and at such a young age. So, we decided to let it be for the time being. We would tell them once they were older; I am sure they would understand.

As I opened the nursery door, soft gurgling sounds filtered into my ears. They were sleeping peacefully. That was a very good thing because now I had a lot of peaceful time to cook breakfast. I made my way downstairs, towards the kitchen to assemble something in the breakfast plates. I ended up making some eggs, bacon and toast with coffee for my sisters and me, whereas some porridge for the boys and warm milk in the tumblers for them to sip on.

When I called out for the girls, they came barreling down the stairs, settling themselves at the dining table before gorging down the amount of food enough for a fully grown man.

“Whoa, slow down ladies. Where’s the fire at?” I ask mockingly.

Mia just shook her head, while gulping the coffee down, whereas Iris replied, “You know, how much we love your home-cooked food. What they give at school is trash. And, we are late for school, so it’s either skipping breakfast or inhaling it. And we both went with the second option.”

I think I got lucky in the Siblings department.

As they finished their breakfast, the bus horn bellowed from the street. They both came running towards me, squishing me in a tight hug and after kissing me on either side of my face, they both ran with fire on their tails.

Just as I moved to the door to see them off, one of my brothers’ cries filled the house. It was 7.15am already; and I had less than 45 minutes to get to college.

I made my way up and towards their nursery. Winston was awake and chewing his pacifier, while Lucas was crying loudly. Why wasn’t I surprised? Theodore, as usual, was sound asleep.

That boy could sleep through a hurricane and a nuclear explosion, without being even a little bothered for a second.

Picking Lucas up, I took him to the changing table. As I got rid of his diaper as well as onesie, I managed to give him a quick bath. Once I was convinced that the little boy was all cleaned up and happy, I placed him inside his crib and moved towards Winston.

Doing the same for the remaining two boys, one of whom was still dozing off in the bath tub, I groomed them all in cute pants and shirts. Then I carry each and every boy downstairs to put them in their high chairs for breakfast.

My brothers… well they are a confusing lot—Lucas is the impatient one, Theo is the drowsy one and Winston is the most obedient of them all.

I got the boys some porridge and began feeding them, but not before putting bibs around their necks. These three were messy eaters, just like their elder twin sisters. It took me around 30 minutes to get done with it; thankfully there were not many tantrums from the boys except for Lucas. I cleaned them up once again and running upstairs to check myself over once in the full size mirror, I grabbed my bag and shoes to leave.

Placing them in their conjoined strollers, I made my way towards the pack house. This was my daily routine; to drop them off at the pack house where the Ex-Luna would take care of them until I’m back home.

Our Ex-Luna is very loving and caring, and so is our present Luna, which also happens to be my Best friend. Rose and I had been best friends since we were in diapers: when she turned 18, she realized she was mated with our Alpha Matt, short for Matthew, who was just 20 years old then.

After dropping them off at the pack house, I waved them a goodbye, kissing their tiny heads, and turned to leave, when suddenly the sound of Lucas’s garbled crying stopped me. He kept making tiny hand gestures for me to pick him up. I knew it was already getting late for college, but I couldn’t just leave him crying! So I gave in. I picked him up and sung him a lullaby, rocking back and forth which I knew usually would make him sleepy.

I placed him back in the stroller and silently stepped away while glancing at my other two brothers, Theo as usual was already snoozing but Winston kept his doe eyes at me, looking up with so much love. Taking his tiny hand in mine, I whisper, “Don’t cause any trouble, okay sweetie? I’ll be back before you know it. Love you.”

As I moved my hand away, he held my finger with his tiny hand and spoke in his childish voice, “Love you too Mommy.”

I kissed his head one last time, before making my way to my car to leave for college.
