The elevator swooshed open, then carried Luca down with his five guards downward in a smooth silent descent. with a smile and a nod to the guard maintaining the security post.

Luca had his briefcase stiffed with files he'd intended to review as he set his attorney's sumptuous conference office. waiting for his secretary, plate glass windows offered him an excellent view.

When he heard the desperate click of her high heels in the office, he glanced up, tensed with expectation. even as he stopped himself to feel nothing, his heart began to race.

Clenching his fist, he jammed it in his pocket.
