Chapter 2
Chloe Regens
My mood is slowly getting down, and I know it because I'm starting to feel heavy now. I looked at myself as I got ready to attend Sebastian's wedding. I gave myself another once-over in the mirror. I was dressed in a striking black dress with a distinctive cut below my chest. The dress was on the shorter side, and I had matched it with elegant black heels. My hair was loosely curled, and I opted for a simple makeup look.
Yes, I know Sebastian well; he's my neighbor in LA, and we basically grew up together. I had a crush on him when I was little, but not anymore. I'm glad that he's married now. In case you're wondering, I'm familiar with the 7 Gold Life. I got to know them when they were all 20, and I was just 12 at the time. But Sebastian is the one I'm closest to.
I stomped my feet when I suddenly remembered my ex, Xander. Back on the day we broke up, I might not have been in the right mood, but now those feelings are beginning to resurface, and I can't stand it.
My thoughts were abruptly interrupted by a gentle tap on the door of my hotel room. With a swift twist of the handle, I warmly welcomed Jack inside. He looked really cool in his suit.
"You're ready?"
"Yeah," I sighed.
"Are you sad because of that bastard?" he asked and I shook my head. "Let's just enjoy ourselves today, alright?" He tenderly ran his fingers through my hair, and I nodded in agreement.
We strolled down to the lobby and hopped into the waiting car. Jack instructed the driver to take us to Sebastian's wedding venue. I was determined to make the most of this wedding, perhaps even indulging in a drink or two until my memories faded away.
I gazed out of the window and basked in the enchanting nighttime lights that New York City had to offer. The city's beauty drew me closer to its mesmerizing charm, and in its radiant glow, I couldn't help but break into a heartfelt smile.
"Chloe," I turned to my brother.
"Huh?"
"We're here," he announced. Stepping out of the car, I entered the venue, following my brother. The intricately designed space left me in awe.
"Let's find Sebastian first." Jack suggested, his hand firmly holding mine. I trailed behind him until I spotted Sebastian in the distance, his gaze fixed on the radiant bride.
"Tian, buddy," Jack hugged him.
"Jack! I'm so glad you're here!" Sebastian patted Jack's shoulder.
"Jack, this is my wife, Alissa. Alissa, this is Jack, my friend and neighbor back in LA," Sebastian said. I faked a little cough to grab their attention
"Nice to meet you, Jack," Alissa said.
"Chloe... wow, you did grow up!" I rolled my eyes when Sebastian said that.
"Of course, I grew up, asshole," I hissed, and he chuckled.
"Chloe, meet my wife Alissa. Alissa, this is Chloe, Jack's sister." Sebastian introduced me to his wife.
"Alissa," she smiled at me.
"Chloe Regens." I smiled back.
"I missed you, little kid. You've grown up," it was Sebastian again.
"Sebastian... stop saying I'm a little kid; I might be the same age as your wife," I said.
"You're still a little kid to us, Chloe," Jack added.
"I'm 22 years old, everyone," I announced, and they laughed.
"So, tell me, what kind of guy is Sebastian?" Alissa asked.
"He's annoying; he used to pull my hair a lot," I glared at him.
"You were cute at that time," he said.
A few minutes later, the other members of the 7 Gold Life started to arrive one by one.
"Hey, Sky!" Jack hugged Sky.
Sky glanced at me and asked, "Who is this?"
"Hey, Sky," I greeted him.
"Where is my cute, chubby Chloe going?" Alex said, and I closed my eyes.
"I'm no longer fat, Alex," I replied.
"What? This is Chloe?" Max asked, clearly in shock.
"No, I'm Angelina Jolie," I said sarcastically.
"Ohhh, someone's feisty!" Luke said and then smiled at me.
"She just broke up with her dumbass boyfriend," Jack casually mentioned, and I shot him an intense glare. He really shouldn't have said that.
"Who's the guy? Do you want us to beat him up?" Aaron suddenly appeared, his voice laced with concern.
"I'm not a kid anymore," I retorted, crossing my arms firmly.
"Not a child? Just look at you!" Max chimed in, with a hint of amusement in his voice."Where are your wives at?"
"They're th..." Alex began, but his words trailed off as he noticed Angel engaged in conversation with a guy.
"I'll be right back," he announced before walking away, his attention now drawn elsewhere.
Jack and the 7 Gold Lifes started to talk about business-related topics. I'm not in the mood to talk about it, so I walked away trying to find my seat when suddenly, I bumped into someone. Looking up, I was surprised to find myself face to face with Kenneth Domanco.
"Hey, Ken. Sorry for that," I said and planned to walk away, but he caught my arm.
"You know me?" he asked, a perplexed expression on his face.
"Do you have amnesia or something?" I asked, standing in front of him and taking in his striking features.
"What? I swear I don't know you."
"It's Chloe Regens... Do you remember? You used to bully me because I was overweight and had a lot of pimples on my face," I said with a hint of sarcasm. He stared at me in disbelief, seemingly struggling to recall what he did to me.
"No way," he said.
"Well, I take that you're dumb," I said in a really annoyed tone.
"Feisty much, Chloe?" He raised his eyebrows.
"I'm not in the mood to talk right now," I said, but I saw his eyes scanning me from head to toe.
"Eyes up here, Kenneth!" I pointed to my eyes, and he but smirked.
"Is today your time of the month?"
He did not just say that I'm having my period?!
"You're so rude." I glared at him.
"Rude, how? I'm being nice here, Chloe."
I shook my head when I realized there's no point in having this dumb conversation with this guy. Why am I still standing here? I sighed.
"Can you help me find my seat?" I asked him.
"What's the magic word, Chloe?"
Why are they treating me like I'm a kid? I'm freaking 22 now!
"You're annoying." I walked past him, but he caught my wrist again.
"Let's go, Regens."
He helped me find my seat, and as I sat down and took a sip of my drink, Ken sat beside me. I shot him a weird look.
"If you want a kiss, just ask, Chloe," he said, and I gave him a disgusted look.
"Why are you still here?" I asked, just as my phone began to ring. I pulled it out from my clutch and let out an exasperated sigh as I saw the caller ID.
"Who's 'D***'?" Ken asked.
"A real d***," I replied and rolled my eyes.
"Ohhh, ex-boyfriend?" he asked.
"Mind your own business." I retorted, placing the phone on the table. But before I could react, Ken picked it up and slid the green button, answering the call.
"Ke-"
"Hello," he greeted the caller.
"So, you're the d***? Chloe? Girlfriend?" Ken looked at me, and I mouthed 'he cheated on me'.
"Do you think you can call me a d***?" Ken wore a smirk as he continued his conversation on the phone.
"Who am I? Should I formally introduce myself?" Ken let out a chuckle, and for some reasons, I found it really sexy.
"Hello d***, I'm Kenneth Domanco. Chloe's boyfriend."
"Want to kill me? Oh... How about you come here to New York and try?" I looked at Ken in disbelief. He didn't just ask Xander to do that.
"Yeah... Chloe is currently with me in New York. Of course... She tastes amazing, you know."
I wanted to kill Ken right now.
"Do you mean her sexy lips? Of course, I kissed them." He glanced at my lips, and then his gaze returned to meet mine.
"So you like calling Chloe? What a gentleman," he said sarcastically, and I let out a weary sigh.
"Come to New York and say that to my face," he added before ending the call. He handed my phone back to me and continued as if nothing had happened.
"Why did you say that?"
"That asshole won't bother you again. You're welcome, Chloe," he said, rising from his seat and whispering it in my ear. A strange sensation coursed through me as I felt his warm breath against my skin.
